Founded in 1908, the International School of the Sacred Heart (ISSH) is one of Tokyo's oldest and most respected international schools, and a proud member of the global Network of Sacred Heart Schools present in more than 40 countries. Set on a green, walled campus in Hiroo — a short walk from Hiroo Station in central Tokyo — ISSH educates girls from Kindergarten (age 3) through High School graduation (age 18) within one close-knit, English-medium community. The academic programme is international by design: the Early Years Foundation Stage in Kindergarten, the International Primary Curriculum through Junior School, and a rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) pathway in High School. ISSH is not an IB school — its identity is built around EYFS, IPC and AP. Education at ISSH is shaped by the Five Goals of Sacred Heart schools, and is known for outstanding choirs and orchestras, strong athletics, an active student leadership tradition, and a deep commitment to service learning both in Tokyo and across the worldwide Sacred Heart network. Graduates progress to leading universities in North America, the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.
Annual tuition ranges from approximately ¥2,560,000 in Kindergarten to ¥2,880,000 in High School. A one-time registration/entrance fee, a refundable facilities deposit and an annual building/maintenance levy apply in addition to tuition. Bus service, lunch, uniforms, AP examination fees and trips are charged separately. Families should confirm the current year's fee schedule and payment terms directly with the admissions office.
Admission is for girls from Kindergarten (age 3) through High School. Families begin with an online inquiry and campus visit, then submit an application with previous school reports, references and supporting documents. Applicants meet with the admissions team and may complete age-appropriate assessment; English-language support needs are considered as part of placement. Rolling admission operates subject to space, with the main intake in late summer for the autumn start. Early contact is recommended for popular year groups.
